There is also a dedicated International Student Support team who organise the free airport meet and greet service and orientation events for new overseas students at the start of the academic year.
The University works with over 2,300 partner organisations across the globe to provide opportunities for students to put their skills into practice and to experience a real working environment between their second and final year of undergraduate study. This includes international companies such as Boeing, Morgan Stanley, IBM and the Walt Disney Company. Surrey works hard to help students meet their career goals. This is through employability, career management and entrepreneurship support, where students develop the qualities that employers look for in the global job market. An impressive 94% of University of Surrey graduates are in professional employment within six months of graduation (HESA 2018).
Students have the opportunity to take advantage of the Global Graduate Awards, which are a number of free extracurricular courses offered by the university. Along with the option of learning one of 11 different languages, the University also offers a Global Graduate Award in Sustainability.
University is the ideal opportunity to break out of your comfort zone and find a new hobby, or pursue an existing passion with like-minded people. Societies are made up of groups of students interested in a common theme – maybe you all love baking, share a geographical location or have similar political views. Joining one of Surrey's 130+ societies (or starting your own) will help you make friends and memories for life. The University also has over 47 sports clubs to join, including lacrosse, volleyball and football.
Following the 2014 Research Excellence Framework, 78% of the University’s research outputs were ranked either ‘world leading’ or ‘internationally excellent’. Surrey ranked in the top quartile of all UK universities for Biomedical Sciences, Electronic Engineering and Hospitality and Tourism and in the top 20 for Economics and Sociology.
There is guaranteed accommodation for all first-year students, providing all deadlines are met. There is a range of accommodation options on offer (band A to F), to suit all budgets and requirements. There are over 6,000 study-bedrooms, and at least 50% of these have en-suite shower and toilet facilities along with unlimited, free broadband. All student residences are self-catered with shared kitchen facilities and are monitored by security 24/7.
Off campus, there is a variety of housing in the Guildford area let privately or through the University of Surrey's own Property Management Scheme.
The University of Surrey’s main campus is located on Stag Hill close to the centre of Guildford and adjacent to Guildford Cathedral. A second campus, at Manor Park, is located a short distance away and has been developed to expand upon existing accommodation, academic buildings and sporting facilities. London is half an hour away by train, with easy access to both Gatwick and Heathrow airports.
The landscaped grounds which surround the main campus are a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and feature country pubs and classic attractions such as Box Hill, as well as acres of countryside for walking or cycling.
My consultant was very helpful and motivating. She helped me every step of the way, even when the deadline was so close. I feel I could not have done it without her. I'd highly recommend this service to any and all of my many friends interested.
